ACAPULCO: Mexican civil protection authorities and naval disaster response units deployed thousands of emergency personnel across the Pacific coastlines of Michoacán, Colima, Guerrero, and Jalisco as Major Hurricane Polo unleashed destructive surf, torrential downpours, and severe gale-force winds.

The powerful storm system, which rapidly intensified over exceptionally warm tropical Pacific waters, generated waves exceeding six meters and threatened vulnerable coastal infrastructure, port facilities, and riverside settlements.

Federal emergency coordinators activated the military’s Plan DN-III-E and Marine Disaster Plan, opening more than 350 temporary shelters and ordering precautionary suspensions of maritime port traffic in Lázaro Cárdenas and Manzanillo.
